ADULT BASIC & LITERACY EDUCATION

Breaking news! The RCN is developing a standardized system to process stipends. Beginning fall of 2010, the stipend and reimbursement process will be online. There will be one site, one set of forms, and one quick process to check eligibility and process payments.  An informational webinar will be offered between September 1 and September 15 explaining the new process. Please note that we have taken our PD forms down from the ABLE website as we prepare for the new stipend system. We ask that you do not submit stipend requests or reimbursements until September 30 so you will able to utilize the new forms and process.  Paperwork will be processed within 2 weeks of submission. Thank you for your understanding as we transition to the new process.

Recent News! On May 5th, the House Subcommittee on Higher Education, Lifelong Learning, and Competitiveness held a hearing on the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Title II, as a part of their work in reauthorizing WIA. The hearing’s purpose was to examine best practices for improving adult education and family literacy.  Please click HERE to read the partial transcript.

These centers provide leadership and expertise in the areas of professional development and instructional resources for Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) staff. Housed in the College of Education and part of The Literacy Center at Ohio University, we provide services to 30 ABLE funded programs in 28 counties in the central/southeast region of Ohio. Over 500 administrators, instructors, aides and support staff are in the region.

Key focus areas include:
• Supporting & advancing professional development in the region
• Enhancing & expanding instructional technologies & resources
